| Hydro Jetting |
What is Hydro jetting?
Hydro Jetting is the use of high pressure water streams within pipes to clear clogs and remove debris.
At high pressure, water can cut roots, dissolve blockages and emulsify grease and soaps while spray washing interior pipe surfaces. A jetting nozzle is attached to the end of a high pressure hose with the other end connected to a high pressure pump. The pump, pictured above, is towed behind the plumbing truck.
![]() Jetting nozzles have precision machined jets to restrict water flow and cause pressure to build within the hose. The high pressure hose is released by the plumber who controls the speed and distance of the nozzle up the pipe. A rear jet nozzle provides (pictured at right) propulsion while cleaning the pipe wall surface. This type of nozzle is typically used for cleaning pipes that are not clogged. All water power is directed to the pipe wall for maximum thrust. Jetting nozzles with a forward firing jet (pictured left) are used to remove blockages and restore pipe flow. This can be followed up with an all rear jet nozzle for additional cleaning. Periodic cleaning is required to maintain maximum flow capacity and to reduce excessive burden on the pipe from accumulated grease or scale buildup. ![]() ![]()
So how tough is that clog? Hydro jetting is capable of delivering streams of water with pressure up to 4,000 pounds per square inch. To give you an idea of the pressure required to remove some common types of clogs: Grease - may require up to 2,000 pounds per square inch of pressure. Tree roots - can require between 3 - 4,000 psi to clean system. Hydro jetting is also used to clean and prepare pipes for trenchless pipe replacement or pipe relining |
